Women’s World softball Championship 2016-  India’s participation

1.       The SURREY 2016 Organizing Committee is organising  WBSC XV Women's World Softball Championship  which  is being held  from July 15th – July 24th at Softball City in South Surrey. ( 2201-148 Street,  Surrey)

2.       The 15th Women’s Softball World Championship in Surrey will bring together the world’s top softball athletes from all five regions, representing the largest global footprint in the event’s history, as eleven nations will be making their women’s world championship debuts.

3.       To participate in the above Championship the Indian Team  reached Vancouver on 13 July 2016 and was warmly received by the Consulate officials and  members of the Indian community. A welcoming ceremony was held by the organisers for the teams India, Mexico, Peurto Rico and Uganda on the afternoon of 14 July 2016. National Anthems were also played on the occasion. Consul General  Mr.Rajiv K.Chander along with Consuls Mr.Jasbir Singh and Mr.N.Lingi Chetty participated  in the  ceremony and interacted with the members of the Indian team and organisers of the Championship.  (Some of the photographs taken on the occasion  are appended below)

The Scheduled dates of play for Indian Team for the preliminary rounds  of    the Championship are as below:-

5.       Members of Indo Canadian Community and friends are  welcome to come in large numbers  and cheer the  Indian team in matches played by India .

6.       Celebration of Nations-  India Day
The organisers are also   hosting a Free Cultural Area open to the public – called “Celebration of Nations” – which will be directly outside the main gates of the Championship Venue at Softball City. Celebration of Nations will be open to the public from 12:00pm (noon) to 8:00pm .The celebration of India will be on 16 July 2016 Saturday.
